Short Term Camping: Heart of Virginia Council Scout Reservations
The Heart of Virginia council has a number of properties which provide opportunities for our scouting units to participate in short-term camping. Consider coordinating a conservation project or volunteer hours to support our scout reservations! The properties support a range of camping styles, from large-scale events to leave-no-trace wilderness experiences. These properties are available for use by any scouting unit, but reservations must be made in advance to ensure availability.
Short Term Camping: State Parks In Our District
Our district has 3 fantastic State Parks to utilize for cub, boy scout and venture adventures! Camping at these locations require reservations as well as payment of a per night fee.
Do not hesitate to call the parks directly to discuss the facilities with a local ranger and to find out about programs available. Consider coordinating a conservation project or volunteer hours to support our state parks!
Bear Creek Lake State Park
326-acre state park located in Cumberland, Virginia It is a recreational and camping facility that surrounds an artificial 40-acre lake situated in the 16,000-acre Cumberland State Forest. The group campsite holds a maximum of 36 people.
Twin Lakes State Park
548-acre, historic park offers many cultural, environmental and recreational activities. Enjoy swimming, fishing, hiking, boating and lakeside picnicking.
Powhatan State Park
Located along the James River in Powhatan County. The park is 1,565 acres total with a 2-mile of riverfront. Day-use and overnight facilities on the James River with a group site large enough for accommodate up to 24 campers.
